It&#8217;s not an unlikely scenario.<\/p>\n<p>Disney routinely genuflects to China to keep its business ties with the Communist nation intact. The Mouse House has gone so far as to keep &#8220;Kundun,&#8221; the Martin Scorsese film about the Dalai Lama, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/scorsese-kundun-disney-banned\/\">unavailable for streaming<\/a> to placate Chinese officials.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/beltway-letter-china-censorship-jon-stewart\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FVZzOR3HLlNk%2Fhqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"YouTube Video\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The letter&#8217;s language may seem shocking to anyone disturbed by the lack of outrage from the press and high-profile politicians over modern-day censorship.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s perfectly said and, sadly, necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cIf Jon Stewart can potentially be impeded from offering commentary on the CCP, what does this mean for less prominent personalities? &#8230; While there is a chance that a high-profile individual like Jon Stewart can locate another streaming service where he can express his views on PRC-related matters, an aspiring comedian who wants to use satire to make broader points about human rights and authoritarianism faces even bleaker prospects. Respectfully, we believe that this needs to change and responsible creative professionals should be able to freely write and perform on PRC-related topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, can the same lawmakers turn their attention to the Biden administration&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/us-supreme-court-blocks-order-curbing-biden-administration-social-media-contacts-2023-10-20\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">quest to censor free speech<\/a>? Team Biden is battling with the Supreme Court over its quest to suppress so-called &#8220;misinformation&#8221; on Big Tech platforms.<\/p>\n<p>And where was the government when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/bill-maher-praises-bari-weiss-twitter-files\/\">The Twitter Files<\/a> exposed a massive push to silence opposing views during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of which were proven true over time?<\/p>\n<p>Multiple Democrats attempted to shame investigative journalist Matt Taibbi from sharing those revelations.<\/p>\n<p>Some did far worse.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Democrat Stacey Plaskett threatens \u2018Twitter Files\u2019 journalist Matt Taibbi with prison <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y1emS7tq8t\">https:\/\/t.co\/Y1emS7tq8t<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XnWv8moLDm\">pic.twitter.com\/XnWv8moLDm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; New York Post (@nypost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypost\/status\/1649150271879016480?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 20, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Stewart has stayed mum on the China subject since the revelations broke, which is odd.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If Apple silenced his critical voice there are many other platforms eager to share it, including Elon Musk&#8217;s X, formerly known as Twitter. He could also call up any news outlet and share his side of the story.<\/p>\n<p>The former &#8220;Daily Show&#8221; host could be plotting a TV comeback with a competing streaming channel. If so, he might be holding that content for his next employer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking truth to power is increasingly hard in 2023. Stewart is perfectly situated to do just that.
