The outlet reported that it was Spyglass Media Group, the production company behind <em>Scream VII, <\/em>that made the decision to remove Barrera from the upcoming film, over what was described simply as &#8220;social media posts&#8221; by the source. Spyglass declined to comment on the report.<\/p>\n<p>While not confirmed by <em>Variety<\/em>, film news sites and social media accounts also pointed out that late last month,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fangoria.com\/original\/matt-reeves-horror-movie-gods-country-cast-maria-bakalova\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Barrera was no longer cast in the upcoming horror film <em>God&#8217;s Country,<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>having been replaced by Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova.<\/p>\n<p><em>Variety<\/em> pointed to a specific Instagram Story post by Barrera that resulted in her sudden firing, in which Barrera referred to Israel as having &#8220;colonized&#8221; Palestine. <\/p>\n<p>Social media users have picked up on past screenshots from Barrera&#8217;s Instagram story, which include the quote <em>Variety <\/em>cited. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">justice for melissa barrera<br \/>she got fired and lost her main acting role on scream 7 cause she posted this on ig meanwhile n0ah schn4pp can go around saying \u201cz!onism is sexy\u201d and posting misinformation without having consequences\u2026so sick and disgusting <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/I1wRP7mGum\">pic.twitter.com\/I1wRP7mGum<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; c <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/14.0.0\/72x72\/1f48c.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc8c\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/> (@celestialswiftt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/celestialswiftt\/status\/1727081439534195135?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 21, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Barrera, a Mexican actress, wrote &#8220;I too come from a colonized country,&#8221; followed by the Mexican flag. &#8220;Palestine WILL be free.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Variety<\/em>&#8216;s source also stated that Barrera&#8217;s social media posts &#8220;floated an antisemitic trope that Jews control the media<strong>,<\/strong>&#8221; and included a partial quote, citing the segment \u201cWestern media only shows the [Israeli] side. Sarandon&#8217;s statement that resulted in her firing is said to be in particular, &#8220;There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report also stated that Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise held a meeting with another talent agency, CAA, over Maha Dakhil, Cruise&#8217;s long-time agent who was fired from the agency several weeks ago. Dakhil was dropped by the agency for referring to Israel&#8217;s ongoing occupation as a &#8220;genocide,&#8221; resulting in her ousting from the agency&#8217;s internal
