Honda announced Wednesday that it plans to introduce 30 new EVs globally by 2030 with a global sales volume of 2 million units. By 2040, the company plans to sell nothing but battery electric and fuel cell electric powered vehicles.<\/p>\n

The first hint of that is due to come on January 9, 2024 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. There, the company \u201cwill showcase the global EV series models and several key technologies that illustrate the significant transformation Honda is currently undergoing.” The models will be presented by Toshihiro Mibe, Global CEO of Honda and Shinji Aoyama, Global EVP of Honda.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes after Honda scrapped plans to jointly develop a line of EVs with General Motors based on the GM\u2019s Ultium battery technology. The only fruit of that collaboration is the forthcoming Honda Prologue<\/a>, which based on the Chevrolet Blazer EV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The company also announced a new slogan, new global brand slogan, \u201cThe Power of Dreams \u2013 How we move you.\u201d It\u2019s meant to show how Honda vehicles will \u201ctranscend various constraints such as time and place,\u201d and \u201caugment their abilities and possibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Uh-huh. Sure. Whatever you say.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the new series won\u2019t be Honda\u2019s first EV in the United States. That would be the Honda Clarity, which the company dropped in 2020<\/a> due to low sales. It wouldn\u2019t have something to do with its 89-mile range or homely looks, would it?<\/p>\n

Look for the new Honda EV to be a different animal entirely.<\/p>\n
