They don\u2019t hand out Academy Awards to movies like \u201cDeuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s probably fine with the film\u2019s star, Rob Schneider<\/a>. He\u2019s made a career out of making millions of people laugh with stand-up comedy, hit films like \u201cBigalow\u201d and pairings with fellow \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d alums Adam Sandler and Chris Rock.<\/p>\n

Still, Schneider told \u201cThe Adam Carolla Podcast\u201d this week how much the Oscars meant to him as a viewer for many years.<\/p>\n

The conversation started with Schneider sharing his thoughts on \u201cSpaceman,\u201d the 2024 drama starring his old chum, Adam Sandler. Schneider got a sneak peek at the film, slated for release sometime next year.<\/p>\n

Schneider suggested it could snag his fellow \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d alum a Best Actor nomination. Sandler\u2019s previous roles, including work in \u201cUncut Gems\u201d and \u201cPunch-Drunk Love,\u201d also sparked Oscar buzz.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe may get an Academy Award before it\u2019s all said and done,\u201d Carolla said about Sandler\u2019s impressive body of work outside the comedy canon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he\u2019s not nominated for [\u2018Spaceman\u2019], they don\u2019t even count. Not that they count anyway,\u201d Schneider added, tearing into new Oscar diversity mandates <\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt used to be 100 million people [watching the Oscars telecast],\u201d he said. \u201cNow that the Academy Awards are saying, \u2018you have to have 40 percent in LGBTQ+\u2019 \u2026 people have checked out because they realize this isn\u2019t the best anymore. It\u2019s just how far they can suck up to this particular ideology of idiocy. It turns people off. It turns me off. I haven\u2019t watched in years,\u201d Schneider continued.<\/p>\n

NOTE<\/strong>: The highest-rated Oscars telecast remains 1973’s edition which drew 85 million viewers.<\/a> The most recent Oscars telecast attracted 18.7 million viewers.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think the chickens are coming home to roost,\u201d Carolla said. \u201cWhen you start introducing question marks into people\u2019s heads, that\u2019s when the franchise is over.\u201d<\/p>\n

The podcaster noted the scandal surrounding Harvard President Claudine Gay <\/a>as an example. The academic\u2019s tone-deaf testimony on Capitol Hill, combined with plagiarism charges, suggest she’ll be looking for a new gig any second.<\/p>\n

Yet Harvard\u2019s leaders are standing by Gay.<\/p>\n
