Shortly after, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.celticsblog.com\/\">Celtics<\/a> ruled Kornet out with an adductor strain and he never returned to the bench. <\/p>\n<p id=\"00USp4\">\u201cI tried running a little bit and it was just grabbing more and more,\u201d Kornet told <em>CLNS Media\/CelticsBlog <\/em>on Sunday. \u201cSo, I had to go back. We checked on it and kind of called it &#8230; it\u2019s a grade one strain, which, all this stuff is actually very minor. There\u2019s just going to be a little discomfort and we\u2019re working through it. It\u2019s already been progressing day-by-day, so just have to keep up on the track until you work your way up to full speed and it feels fine.\u201d <\/p>\n<div id=\"iqACpr\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nKXDmkKgCjY?rel=0\" style=\"top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; border: 0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" scrolling=\"no\" allow=\"accelerometer; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share;\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"jTIlLe\">Kornet \u2014 who suffered the injury dunking during pre-game layup lines \u2014 affirmed Joe Mazzulla\u2019s earlier indication that he\u2019d miss one week, saying it usually takes 1-2 weeks to return, but there\u2019s no exact timetable as they take it day-by-day. He had filled depth big minutes behind Porzi\u0146\u0123is and Al Horford, particularly in games where Boston plays more double-big alignments. Mazzulla had said this week that when healthy, the Celtics decided on Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser, Horford and Kornet as their nine-man rotation.<\/p>\n<aside id=\"QSwFn3\">\n<div data-anthem-component=\"readmore\" data-anthem-component-data='{\"stories\":[{\"title\":\"Must C\u2019s: Lamar Stevens doesn\u2019t quit\",\"url\":\"https:\/\/www.celticsblog.com\/2023\/12\/17\/24004027\/must-cs-lamar-stevens-doesnt-quit-boston-celtics-orlando-magic-joe-mazzulla\"}]}'><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p id=\"FXtjPo\">Lamar Stevens filled in admirably at the five in the second half on Thursday after a rocky start in his first major rotation minutes of the season during the first half. Stevens started against the Magic on Friday with Porzi\u0146\u0123is, Horford and Kornet out, helping the Celtics piece together a win alongside Oshae Brissett and Queta, who filled Kornet\u2019s role in Sunday\u2019s second game of the mini series. <\/p>\n<p id=\"f95MQE\">\u201cI was already out by the start of the game,\u201d Kornet said of his absence on Thursday. \u201cI was back here and we did some treatment, I was doing that, and at that point, it was like, \u2018ok, I\u2019ll just hang out in the back here and wait until the end.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"MLhvDA\">Kornet suffered the injury twisting the wrong way on a dunk, an addition to an injury-filled career that had improved since he arrived in Boston in the Daniel Theis trade in 2021. He expects to travel on the west coast trip on Monday in preparation to potentially return at some point during the trip that runs through Christmas. A one week timeline leaves him out of Tuesday\u2019s game at Golden State and the back-to-back at Sacramento. <\/p>\n<p id=\"zOHSMT\">The Celtics are also assessing Porzi\u0146\u0123is\u2019 status for those consecutive games. Porzi\u0146\u0123is hopes to play, as he did on Friday when Boston held him back, as they begin to manage his playing time more carefully following a four-game absence with a calf strain. Boston flashed the ability to win with different combinations in the front court, even down all of their rotation big men on Friday. How Boston staggers their time off this week will prove interesting. Horford sat the front end of a back-to-back earlier this season for the first time.<\/p>\n<p id=\"6Hqxtv\">\u201cIt\u2019s sort of day-by-day,\u201d Kornet said. \u201cIt\u2019s not a very exact thing, but it\u2019s helping to keep progressing day-by-day.
