Chinese-built aero-optimised electric crossover sits between next-generation Cooper and Countryman<\/p>\n

Mini will soon\u00a0reveal\u00a0its first dedicated\u00a0electric\u00a0car<\/a>, the Aceman, upon which it has pinned the success of its\u00a0revamped, next-generation line-up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Predicted to be the brand’s\u00a0best-seller, the \u201cdoes everything\u201d crossover is t<\/span>he BMW<\/a>-owned brand\u2019s first new model name in 10 years.<\/p>\n

Spotted testing on roads in Germany with camouflage regressed enough to reveal its new design\u00a0and large, bulbous headlights, it will arrive in 2025 to fill the gap between the flagship Mini\u00a0Cooper<\/a>\u00a0and Mini Countryman<\/a> SUV.<\/p>\n

It is clear that aerodynamic efficiency will play a key role in defining Mini\u2019s design language as it moves towards EVs, with the\u00a0Aceman clearly adopting a rounded, clean front end and less upright stance than the concept – although the silhouette has been broadly carried over.<\/span><\/p>\n

The five-door crossover is otherwise said to be barely differentiated from the concept shown in 2022, though the futuristic LED roof, wing mirrors and parts of the interior will be adapted for production.<\/p>\n

Company CEO Stefanie Wurst said it is the car that \u201cticks all the boxes”\u00a0and is being prepared as an indirect replacement for the estate-shaped Mini Clubman<\/a>. It is the brand’s first new nameplate since the Mini Paceman <\/a>in 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cooper is the car that comes in lots of shapes [and guises]. The Aceman is like the standard: it only comes in five doors, only electric, only crossover. It ticks all the boxes,\u201d said Wurst, who added that it is an \u201cimportant\u201d car for the brand, especially for the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Positioned to rival the Jeep Avenger<\/a>, it will be built in China and use a stretched version of the electric Cooper\u2019s Spotlight architecture.<\/p>\n

It will also employ\u00a0the Cooper’s\u00a0battery and power offerings (181bhp S, 215bhp SE),<\/span>\u00a0but given the car is bigger and heavier than its supermini sibling, the range of the entry-level 40kWh E is expected to be down on the Cooper\u2019s 240 miles.\u00a0Only two-wheel drive will be offered.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A hot JCW version, using the same 54kWh battery as the SE, will arrive in 2026 –<\/span>\u00a0around a year after the standard car, with a focus on power over range.<\/span><\/p>\n

As with the Cooper, Mini has developed a soundtrack to accompany acceleration, but Wurst said it won’t be like the operatic tune\u00a0BMW offers in models such as the BMW iX<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere inside, the Aceman gets a near-identical interior to the Cooper, albeit with even \u2018funkier\u2019 styling\u00a0on the cards. A knitted dashboard has been mooted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Its interior will largely shun\u00a0chrome and leather and adopt\u00a0a clean, one-screen central display for control of most key functions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In parting with tradition, its interior is dominated by a large central screen and a set of five toggle switches. Aside from these, buttons are almost entirely absent from the sustainable textile or leatherette-clad dashboard fascia.<\/p>\n

The car\u00a0is predicted to have the broadest target market of any Mini\u00a0because, Wurst said, \u201cyou can buy it for your first car, or have it as your only car\u201d.\u00a0Wurst\u00a0expects it to sell well in Asia. \u201cI think this car has the biggest potential. It is the one with the hottest \u2018newness\u2019 aspect.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u00a0measures 1590mm tall, 4050mm long and\u00a01990mm wide, and spy photos show how it has evolved from the radical concept, and how Mini\u2019s design language will change as it moves onto its revamped line-up.<\/p>\n

The original Aceman concept and minimalistic Strip concept\u00a0showcased just how far the brand will go in its pursuit of enhanced sustainability for its cars.<\/p>\n
