Case in point? We&#8217;re getting in-canon video games, something the MCU has never delivered in 15 years. <\/p>\n<p>This is something that Gunn teased back when he first announced <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/movies\/what-is-dcu-chapter-one-gods-and-monsters\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the DCU Chapter One slate<\/a> a full year ago in January 2023, but now it&#8217;s been confirmed once more by Warner Bros. Games. In an interview with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/gaming\/news\/hogwarts-legacy-quidditch-video-game-1235860849\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Variety<\/a> confirmed that certain games are currently in development that will be &#8220;canon additions to James Gunn and Peter Safran\u2019s planned relaunch of the DC Universe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is a whole new way of building out a cinematic universe from Gunn and Safran \u2014 the most Marvel has offered is a couple of middling movie tie-in games back in the early days of Phase One. However, while exciting, this tactic creates a huge question that fans have been quick to ask: how closely connected to the movies and TV shows of the DCU can these games really be?<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/DC_Cinematic\/comments\/19203sq\/warner_bros_games_are_developing_games_that_will\/?share_id=4cDk6yVstSGOU2B-l-YSB&amp;utm_content=1&amp;utm_medium=ios_app&amp;utm_name=ioscss&amp;utm_source=share&amp;utm_term=1\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DC_Cinematic Reddit community<\/a> certainly seems of the opinion that these DCU games will have to be &#8220;somewhat inconsequential to the overall narrative&#8221; because Warners &#8220;can&#8217;t expect people to take up video games to keep up with a movie[&#8216;]s story.&#8221; <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-reddit wp-block-embed-reddit\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" ><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/DC_Cinematic\/comments\/19203sq\/comment\/kgzmpun\/\">Comment<\/a><br \/> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/Louis_DCVN\/\">u\/Louis_DCVN<\/a> from discussion<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/DC_Cinematic\/comments\/19203sq\/warner_bros_games_are_developing_games_that_will\/\"><no value><\/a><br \/> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/DC_Cinematic\/\">DC_Cinematic<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Remember we&#8217;ve got TV shows, both live-action and animated, coming from the DCU too. Many Redditors have floated a particularly convincing theory: that the games could be prequels, capitalizing on gaps in the franchise&#8217;s timeline and helping to enrich the backstories of the characters we see on screen. This is another way that making prequel games, or games &#8220;set in a particular moment&#8221; would be the way to go. There&#8217;s no time frame on when to expect the first of these to appear either, but the fact things are already cooking behind the scenes is encouraging.
