The much-anticipated dates for the inaugural 2024 IWBF Repechage Tournaments for both men and women<\/strong> have been officially announced. Organized by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, these Championships are the final chance for qualification to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both events are set to take place in April 2024. The men\u2019s competition, which will be hosted by the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Fran\u00e7aise Handisport<\/a>, is scheduled to take place in Antibes, France<\/strong> between 12 April \u2013 15 April. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The men\u2019s competition will be directly followed by the women\u2019s competition, which is scheduled to take place between the 17 April \u2013 20 April<\/strong> in Osaka, Japan hosted by the Japanese Wheelchair Basketball Federation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

IWBF Competition Commission Chair, Charlie Bethel<\/strong>, said:<\/p>\n

\u00a0“After meticulous planning and coordination with both Local Organising Committees and with the best efforts to minimise disruption to the national league seasons, we are pleased to confirm the dates for the Repechage tournaments next year. These events provide an additional qualification opportunity for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games in Paris, providing a repechage-style qualification process that compliments the Zonal Qualification Championships. These competitions promise to be of the highest standard as teams battle for a final route\u00a0to\u00a0Paris\u00a02024.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful to the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Fran\u00e7aise Handisport and the Japanese Wheelchair Basketball Federation for their unwavering commitment in providing the ultimate event experience for some of the best teams in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Both tournaments will follow the same format, consisting of two groups that will establish rankings for crossover matches. Subsequently, the climactic knockout stage will unveil the ultimate four teams earning their coveted berths for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n

The new qualification system was introduced following the reduction in team places at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The aim is to ensure the fairest approach and that the best teams in the world are represented at the Games. The Repechage Tournaments give a final opportunity for teams to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games that do not qualify through the Zonal Championships.<\/p>\n
