When you make a change to your project’s fuel system and have to add a return to the stock tank, that can be a royal pain when access is limited to the inside of the tank, etc. Welding is an option, but requires removing and cleaning the tank in order to keep from blowing yourself up, and if you aren’t precise with your welding then you end up with leaks. Or there is drilling a hole and installing a bulkhead fitting, but that requires you to be able to reach into the tank to install the washer and nut and hold it tight while tightening the outside half of the fitting.
