The Bangkok Youth Center witnessed a thrilling Day 1 at the 2024 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships<\/a>. With a remarkable field of 20 teams and the largest women’s field ever, boasting 9 teams, the championship promises an electrifying display of wheelchair basketball prowess.<\/p>\n

The inaugural game of the day lived up to the hype as UAE<\/strong> sealed a nail-biting victory, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats. In a stunning comeback against the Philippines<\/strong>, UAE clinched the win with a one-point edge, the final scoreboard reading 55-54<\/strong>. The heart-stopping action set the tone for what promises to be an intense and closely contested men\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n

New Zealand<\/strong>, making a comeback to the championship after an absence since 2017, faced a tough loss against Afghanistan.<\/strong> Despite a spirited second half, the Kiwis couldn’t overcome Afghanistan’s confident performance, and the match concluded with a final score of 77-37.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Opening Ceremony of the 2024 IWBF Asia Oceania Wheelchair Basketball Championships added a touch of joy and warmth to the event ahead of hosts Thailand facing China in the final game of the day. Participants from across the region were warmly welcomed in a ceremony attended by the President of the National Paralympic Committee of Thailand, Lieutenant Nayanop Bhirombhakdi. His heartfelt wishes and encouragement set the stage for a fantastic showcase of skill, athleticism, and determination.<\/p>\n
