{"id":75576,"date":"2024-01-12T20:36:11","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T20:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/?p=2038866"},"modified":"2024-01-12T20:36:11","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T20:36:11","slug":"greg-gutfeld-advertisers-are-now-the-censors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gamefootballmobileanimeiphone.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/12\/greg-gutfeld-advertisers-are-now-the-censors\/","title":{"rendered":"Greg Gutfeld: \u2018Advertisers Are Now the Censors\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/gutfeld-writers-strike-late-night\/\">Greg Gutfeld<\/a> had to tread carefully this week, a change of pace for the outspoken funny man.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gutfeld appeared on &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/russell-brand-rumble-corrupt-media-big-pharma\/\">Stay Free with Russell Brand<\/a>&#8221; and the conversation shifted from Woke Nation to his former Fox News colleague,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/tucker-carlson-russell-brand-trump-rfk-jan-6\/\"> Tucker Carlson.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The host of &#8220;Tucker Carlson Tonight&#8221; got fired from the cable news juggernaut last April, and we&#8217;ve yet to hear a full explanation as to why. Neither Carlson nor Fox News have offered a rationale for the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Gutfeld shared his take on the matter with Brand, the rebel comic whose YouTube footprint now stands at an impressive 6.72 million subscribers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tonight\ud83d\udd25 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/greggutfeld?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@greggutfeld<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SkTKMVCIi7\">pic.twitter.com\/SkTKMVCIi7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Russell Brand (@rustyrockets) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rustyrockets\/status\/1745778148749316534?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 12, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The right-leaning comic didn&#8217;t throw Carlson or his employer under the bus. He did suggest a critical reason for Carlson&#8217;s dismissal, one that makes sense given the tenor of the times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Galvanizing advertisers against you &#8230; is meant to destroy you. It&#8217;s meant to censor you. [The pressure on Carlson] was building and building. Media Matters and other groups were targeting him,&#8221; Gutfeld said, adding a professional divorce may have been inevitable. &#8220;For him to survive, and everybody who is interesting and has an original point of view, for them to survive it has to be untethered from advertising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Advertisers had been<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2020\/tv\/news\/tucker-carlson-fox-news-tv-advertising-1234632961\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"> fleeing Carlson&#8217;s high-rated show<\/a> for years before his dismissal for content they claimed didn&#8217;t match their corporate beliefs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Disney, Papa John\u2019s and Poshmark are among the advertisers who said they would ensure their commercials would not appear in Carlson\u2019s program in the future. In a Twitter post, the CEO of T-Mobile, Mike Sievert, even appeared to dismiss the idea that his company\u2019s money would ever support Carlson\u2019s program again: \u201cBye-bye, Tucker Carlson!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Advertisers are now the censors,&#8221; Gutfeld said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yet some advertisers have no qualms with shows like &#8220;The View&#8221; that spout some of the most<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2024\/01\/09\/whoopi-goldberg-trump-will-disappear-journalists-gay-folks\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"> unhinged conspiracy theories in the culture.<\/a> Siding with the Left has its perks, Gutfeld noted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They embrace the wokeism as a Trojan Horse to protect themselves from their profit-making, their rent-seeking&#8221; Gutfeld explained. &nbsp;&#8220;They can point to the fact that, &#8216;Look we have DEI. We have equity hires. We&#8217;re good. We have these special days in our company.&#8217; Meanwhile, they&#8217;re doing exactly what a corporation does, which is to grow their influence and their power.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/is-russell-brand-the-new-joe-rogan\/\"><strong>RELATED: IS RUSSELL BRAND THE NEW JOE ROGAN?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The host of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/gutfeld-king-late-night-writers-strike\/\">Gutfeld<\/a>!&#8221; said neither he nor Carlson were censored at Fox News, but the story didn&#8217;t end there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fox never told him what he couldn&#8217;t say, but you could tell from the advertising and the pressure on him, that was the leading pressure on his exit,&#8221; Gutfeld said.<\/p>\n<p>That chain of events didn&#8217;t surprise Gutfeld, who toiled in the men&#8217;s magazine space before joining Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I knew this in magazines. Advertisers hate the customer, which is so strange. They think you&#8217;re stupid, They don&#8217;t want to be near the editorial that the customer likes,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not just a magazine problem.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You see that in broadcasting. Those with the most advertising tend to have the emptiest editorial. There&#8217;s no perspective. There&#8217;s nothing that interests you. Once you get interesting or dare to get outside that circle, then it flips on you and then they come after you,&#8221; he said, praising how Brand, Carlson, Dave Rubin and Joe Rogan have created independent platforms to preserve their authentic voices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People can go and create their own thing, get their own subscriber base and make a living and a career without having to think about upsetting a soap company or a shoe company &#8230; meanwhile, the shoe company is having shoes made by 12-year-olds, but they&#8217;re lecturing you on diversity and equity.
