The Bucks are getting the coach they targeted over the past 24 hours. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SP16vhYJDP\">pic.twitter.com\/SP16vhYJDP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wojespn\/status\/1750192710693351849?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 24, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Rivers is now the head coach in Milwaukee one day after <a href=\"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/bucks-fire-adrian-griffin-after-43-games-who-will-become-next-head-coach\/\">firing first-year coach Adrian Griffin<\/a>. Wojnarowski&#8217;s report states the Bucks and Rivers\u00a0&#8220;negotiated deep into Tuesday night and Wednesday morning before reaching an agreement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Bucks dismissed Griffen 43 games into his tenure as the head coach. The Bucks are 30-13 and hold the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n<p>However, tension has been brewing between Griffin and several Bucks veterans, including Giannis Antetokounmpo. SI&#8217;s Chris Mannix tweeted that these Bucks veterans &#8220;lost faith in Griffin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Milwaukee&#8217;s defense has taken a step back under Griffin. The Bucks rank 22nd in defensive efficiency compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamrankings.com\/nba\/stat\/defensive-efficiency?date=2023-06-13\">fifth at the end of last season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of prolonging the inevitable, the Bucks&#8217; front office is changing coaches now with 39 games remaining in a &#8220;championship or bust&#8221; season.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There have been steady rumblings for weeks in NBA circles that several Bucks veterans, including Giannis, had lost faith in Griffin. Since winning the NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics in 2007-2008, Rivers has only missed the postseason once (2017-2018 with the Clippers) in 16 seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Rivers spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the 76ers, making three consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>The knock on Rivers has always been his tumultuous postseason exits, blowing three
