The country’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has announced that three of its popular models will be sent to Bharat NCAP for crash testing. Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, Shashank Srivastava, has stated that the Brezza, Baleno, and Grand Vitara will be undergoing Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash testing. The company is offering these models for crash testing to ensure high safety standards for Indian customers, stated a Maruti official.<\/p>\n

As stated, the company has chosen three of its premium offerings in the Indian car market for the BNCAP testing. The first is its premium hatchback, Baleno; then there is its popular sub-compact SUV, Brezza. Lastly, the company is also offering its hybrid compact SUV, Grand Vitara, for crash testing by BNCAP as well. As of now, only these cars will be going for the test, but most likely in the future, Maruti Suzuki will be offering more cars for crash testing.<\/p>\n

Previously tested Maruti Suzuki cars<\/h2>\n

Over the last few years, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has not fared well in crash safety testing, as certain Maruti models, including the Alto K10 and Wagon R, have scored poorly in the past. Both of these cars did not earn more than 2 stars for adult occupancy. The results of these poor crash testing results have had a negative impact on the brand. However, with the new generation of cars, the company is moving towards a future with safer cars.<\/p>\n

Back in 2022, Maruti Suzuki’s Chairman RC Bhargava also downplayed the concerns of safety ratings. He was noted stating that incorporating NCAP standards in cars would not significantly impact the number of accidents. Previously, the premium hatchback Baleno, tested by Global NCAP, faced a massive setback when it secured a zero-star rating in Latin NCAP crash tests.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the previous-generation Brezza (Vitara Brezza) earned a much better 4-star adult occupancy rating. However, the 2 stars for child occupancy in Global NCAP’s 2018 testing was a small setback for the SUV. So far, since its launch back in September of 2022, the premium compact SUV Grand Vitara has not undergone global safety testing.<\/p>\n

Expectations for Bharat NCAP<\/h2>\n

Presently, Maruti Suzuki has expressed optimism about the upcoming BNCAP results. The company has stated that it is hoping that the Brezza, Baleno, and Grand Vitara will perform well. The company also added that good crash testing results will alleviate concerns about the safety of Maruti Suzuki vehicles in India. Maruti Suzuki added that it is keen on demonstrating its commitment to meeting and exceeding safety standards set by the Indian safety authority.<\/p>\n

The first made in India cars to be tested by Bharat NCAP are the Tata Harrier and Safari facelift. Both of these flagship SUVs from Tata Motors managed to score perfect five-star safety ratings in Bharat NCAP crash tests. The new Harrier and Safari facelift both scored the highest 5-Star safety rating with the highest adult safety score of 33.05 out of max 34.00. And they also scored the highest child safety score of 45.00 out of max 49.00. Both of these SUVs come equipped with safety features, including 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, Advanced ESP, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, ADAS with features like autonomous emergency braking, lane departure assist, and a number of other features.<\/p>\n
