But from the beginning, those close to the DC project have said that Youssef&#8217;s role was removed before the viral Morgan interview. <\/p>\n<p>In mid-Feb., 2024, however, Youssef doubled down on his claim that he was fired from the film for criticizing the Israeli government, speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Av5OEBOZbHY&amp;t=773s\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salon<\/a>, eliciting an X response from <em>Superman: Legacy<\/em> director <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tag\/james-gunn\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Gunn<\/a> days later. <\/p>\n<h2>The Youssef Salon interview<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bassem Youssef on Piers Morgan interview fallout, Jon Stewart and disdain for Biden | Salon Talks\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Av5OEBOZbHY?start=773&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">via Salon\/YouTube<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In that Salon interview, Bassem Youssef said, &#8220;In the United States of America, you can talk about Joe Biden, you can talk about Trump, but you can&#8217;t criticize a foreign government,&#8221; which Youssef found sad. &#8220;I was cast in the new movie <em>Superman<\/em>. They told me they changed the script,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I want to believe this is true.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>According to Youssef, he understood the emotional connection those involved in the movie had with Israel and why they might want to fire him based on what he said.
