Whitney Cummings isn\u2019t one to back down from a joke or a fight.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The veteran comic isn\u2019t woke. Nor does she self-censor her material. She even posted her latest comedy special, \u201cMouthy,\u201d on a platform that lets artists say what they want sans censorship.<\/p>\n

So she was a good match for Bill Maher\u2019s \u201cClub Random\u201d podcast, and she shared a tidbit that came as no surprise to the liberal, but aggressively unwoke, host.<\/p>\n

The comics talked about MeToo and current hiring practices given Gen Z\u2019s reputation for being triggered by any number of microaggressions.<\/p>\n

Maher said he has a mostly hands-off policy with his hiring practices, and he was happy about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am paranoid about hiring \u2026 with the way people are now, especially the younger generation \u2026 we\u2019re a happy group and we have been for a very long time and we function really well together. People don\u2019t wanna leave,\u201d Maher said. \u201cAll it takes is one stupid f***ing uber-woke person who thinks they\u2019re a social justice warrior but they just want to stir up s***.”<\/p>\n

Cummings quickly added a personal story about just such a person.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got in trouble for saying, \u2018Merry Christmas\u2019 on the set of \u2018Roseanne,\u2019\u201d Cummings said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat kind of s***,\u201d Maher interjected.<\/p>\n

Cummings served as the rebooted ABC show\u2019s co-runner, meaning she was very high up on the power scale. Showrunners essentially call the creative shots on a given program.<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t protect her from a woke underling who complained about her seasonal tidings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen HR called me to say I was in trouble for saying, \u2018Merry Christmas,\u2019 They were like, \u2018Hey, um, so \u2026 \u2018 They thought it was ridiculous, too,\u201d Cummings recalled. She didn\u2019t stop there, though. \u201cI confronted the person and I basically was like, \u2018You\u2019re dangerous to everybody in this office.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a good story, and I\u2019m glad it came out that way for you, but I am not as sanguine as you are about the idea that the ridiculous don\u2019t have fans \u2013 the other people who are ridiculous,” Maher said. “Ridiculous stuff does land sometimes … and no one ever gets in trouble for being too woke.”<\/p>\n

Cummings eventually left the \u201cRoseanne\u201d reboot at the start of season two, reportedly due to a heavy workload. Could events like this have played a part in her departure?<\/p>\n
