If you need scientific proof, mouse and rat models show that this <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">antioxidant<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/25361771\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stimulates the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair follicle<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stem cells<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Because this <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">antioxidant<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is needed for cell development, fat metabolism, and energy production, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">low levels<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of riboflavin are known to trigger <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the record, vitamin B2 deficiency rarely occurs as a standalone nutritional deficiency as it\u2019s usually <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7037471\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">part of a generalized B vitamin insufficiency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s recommended to eat more riboflavin-rich foods like spinach and fatty fish (such as salmon and mackerel) or consider a B vitamin supplement that contains vitamin B2.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>3. Vitamin B7 (<\/b><b>Biotin<\/b><b>)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because vitamin B7 (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biotin<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) deficiency is linked to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, make sure to get enough of this micronutrient in your meals. A 2017 systematic review in the Journal of Skin Appendage Disorders highlighted that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28879195\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supplementing with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biotin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may help with poor <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair growth<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brittle nails<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Still, the review consisted of only 18 case reports solely focused on individuals with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biotin deficiency<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As such, more studies are needed to confirm the general efficacy of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biotin<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a vitamin for healthy individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>4. Vitamin B9 (<\/b><b>Folate<\/b><b> or <\/b><b>Folic Acid<\/b><b>)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitamin B9 exists in two forms: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">folate<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (natural) and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">folic acid<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (synthetic). Whichever form it takes, the jury is still out on whether vitamin B9 makes any difference to your mane.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some research shows there&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/19508569\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no difference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in zinc, vitamin B9, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin B12<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> levels in people with or without <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Yet, other data points to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5596642\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">folate<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> deficiency in women with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair loss<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conditions like female pattern <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">baldness<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While science still needs time to make up its mind on this vitamin for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair health<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you want to consume enough vitamin B9 daily for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsph.harvard.edu\/nutritionsource\/folic-acid\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overall well-being<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>5. <\/b><b>Vitamin C<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ve probably heard that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin C<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is vital to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">healthy hair growth<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, given how it cracks down on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">free radical<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> damage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One study even showed that a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair growth supplement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> containing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin C<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3509882\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">significantly boosted hair <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">regrowth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in women with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thinning hair<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over time. However, it should be noted that said supplement also consisted of other ingredients such as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">horsetail<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-derived silica. For that reason, the improvements in hair volume cannot be solely credited to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin C<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alone, although it won\u2019t hurt to get enough of this <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">antioxidant<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in your diet.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>6. <\/b><b>Vitamin D<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitamin D deficiency<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is linked to various <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair loss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conditions like female pattern <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">baldness<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and alopecia areata (an autoimmune condition). Even if you don\u2019t have one of these conditions, it\u2019s wise to meet your daily <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin D<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> intake. In vitro studies have discovered that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/7947199\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin D<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> levels increase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the keratinocytes (cells that produce the hair protein <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">keratin<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) during the growth phase of the hair cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>7. Vitamin E<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re currently experiencing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thinning hair<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, vitamin E may be worth a try as it tackles <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">free radical<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> damage and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oxidative stress<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A small-scale2010 study discovered that taking 100 milligrams of vitamin E supplements every day for eight months <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/24575202\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">boosted <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair growth<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by 34.5%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">placebo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> group. The test subjects saw <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jddonline.com\/articles\/a-six-month-randomized-double-blind-placebo-controlled-study-evaluating-the-safety-and-efficacy-of-a-S1545961618P0558X\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a rise in hair volume<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, thickness, and overall quality, suggesting that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">collagen<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may be what your locks need to thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>9. Essential Fatty Acids<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did you know essential fatty acids like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">omega-3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fats are vital to optimal <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hair health<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? While more scientific data is needed to reaffirm this finding for adults, consuming enough <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsph.harvard.edu\/nutritionsource\/selenium\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">selenium<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-rich foods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> helps to maintain a healthy thyroid and other vital functions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How to Consume Vitamins for Hair (and Other Nutrients)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best way to consume enough of the good stuff (aka the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best vitamins<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for hair and other antioxidants) is through a healthy, balanced diet.
