It’s been quite a week for Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp. On top of the Gunners boss Mikel Arteta calling the Dutchman back to the club as academy coach, Bergkamp is also the recipient of a banknote.
Dutch printing company Royal Joh. Enschede is honoring Bergkamp with an €8 banknote. The artwork shows the Iceman’s remarkable goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup quarter-final against Argentina.
Bergkamp demonstrated his superb first touch during that strike by bringing down a long arching ball from teammate Frank De Boer. He then takes a deft touch, setting himself up for a beautiful outside-the-boot goal that even the best can dream of. Here it is again.
Bergkamp honored with his own banknote
Last Sunday, Bergkamp attended an honorary event to receive the special banknote. There will be 25,000 notes printed at $27 a piece. It’s worth noting that the banknote has no monetary value, except perhaps the 23-carat gold leaf “zero” one the printing company gifted Bergkhamp. It’s not quite sure what prompted the Bergkamp bank note other than remembering one of the game’s greats. After all, Argentina celebrated World Cup winner Lionel Messi by printing his face on the 1000 peso. But also happens that the Arsenal Invincible is getting ready to release a new autobiography early next year. Now that’s one way to kick off a book tour!
