Mazda announced its plans for the Japan Mobility Show 2023 set to be held in Tokyo later this month. The automaker’s stand will focus on the MX-5, including the recently facelifted model and a mysterious concept that looks similar to the Mazda Vision Concept from last year.
Starting with the new and yet unnamed concept, the dark teaser reveals its LED taillights, illuminated Mazda emblem, and F1-style brake light on the diffuser. Mazda said that it was designed to “symbolize the exhibit theme”, making it clear that we’re talking about an MX-5-related vehicle. Reading between the lines, the model could be an evolved version of the Mazda Vision Concept most likely coming with a fully electric powertrain. While it’s too early to talk about the next-gen MX-5, the concept could serve as a preview of what Mazda has in store for the popular nameplate’s electrified future.

The latest update on the fourth-gen Mazda MX-5 which was recently announced with redesigned LED lighting units, a new infotainment, more safety features, and an incremental power boost, will also be present at the show. Next to it, Mazda will showcase the MX-5 SeDV designed for drivers with disabilities, an example of the first-gen MX-5, plus a 2/3 scale model of the current model designed for children. Other exhibits include the motorsport-derived Mazda2 Bio Concept which runs on next-gen bio-diesel fuel.
Finally, the company will take part in an educational entertainment venue giving preschool children the opportunity to try “sand-casting” and “stamping operator” experiences inside a simulated Mazda factory so they get an idea of how automotive production works.
The Japan Mobility Show 2023 will open its doors at Tokyo Big Sight on October 28, although the press day will be held on October 25.
