Driving can be a boring job for some, especially for people who get stuck in traffic for hours during their daily commute. While many such bored drivers take up different ways to keep themselves entertained like listening to music or podcasts, this lady thought that could instead watch a TV series while driving her car.
This instance was recorded on camera. Bikers saw the lady watching the series on the screen and caught the moment on camera. It is not clear if she had mounted her phone to watch or if it was streaming on the infotainment system of the vehicle.
Manufacturers do not allow any kind of video playback while the vehicle is in motion. However, numerous aftermarket brands do allow such streaming even when the vehicle is moving. Such infotainments are not legal and watching a video on screen while driving can be disastrous as it can be highly distractive.
It is against the law to install a TV or any video-playing device on the dashboard of a vehicle. Violators can be fined up to Rs. 100. This rule exists because watching videos or any other content while driving can distract the driver and increase the risk of accidents. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) devices, which are connected to the vehicle’s ECU or handbrake, are designed to not play videos while the vehicle is in motion.
Distracted driving refers to any activity that diverts your attention from driving safely. This includes talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, conversing with passengers, adjusting the stereo, entertainment or navigation system, or any other action that takes your focus away from driving responsibly.

Texting while driving is particularly dangerous. When you send or read a text message or watch a video, your eyes are off the road for about 5 seconds. You can cover a lot of distance in these five seconds and someone in front of you can brake or change directions. This can cause a crash.
To drive safely, it is important to give your full attention to the task at hand. Engaging in non-driving activities while behind the wheel can lead to distractions and significantly increase the risk of accidents.
One should concentrate on the road while driving especially in the heavily crowded roads of India. If a traffic cop spots the driver watching videos while driving, he can be issued a challan for dangerous driving.
