Mahindra XUV 3XO Teased In India, Has A Weird Connection With SsangYong

  • The Mahindra XUV 3XO will debut on April 29.
  • The small SUV will be an extensively facelifted version of the Mahindra XUV300.
  • The lineup will reportedly include gasoline, diesel, and fully electric powertrains.

Mahindra has dropped the first teasers of the upcoming XUV300 subcompact SUV for the Indian market ahead of its official unveiling on April 29th. The new model, with its peculiar name, is actually a significantly updated version of the Mahindra XUV300, which itself is based on the SsangYong Tivoli.

The Mahindra XUV300 was introduced five years ago, making it in desperate need of a mid-life cycle refresh to compete against newer rivals. Thankfully, this refresh will bring a drastically redesigned exterior, eliminating the outdated lines of its predecessor

The teaser of the XUV 3XO (pronounced as XUV-three-exoh) reveals a portion of the redesigned face featuring a blacked-out grille and modern headlights. We also get to see the new taillights which are connected via a full-width LED bar sending Renault Captur vibes. The styling updates are inspired by Mahindra’s BE and XUV concepts first shown in 2022.

Despite the comprehensive redesign, the Mahindra XUV300 will most likely retain the compact footprint of its predecessor, which measured 3,995 mm (157.3 inches) long with a 2,600 mm (100 inches) wheelbase.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is expected to ride on the XUV300 chassis, originating from the SsangYong Tivoli. The Korean model has been around since 2015, but recently received its second facelift, adopting the KG Mobility branding.

The powertrain lineup will reportedly be carried over from the Mahindra XUV300. The outgoing model is currently available with naturally-aspirated and turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline engines alongside a 1.5-liter diesel. Furthermore, a fully electric version is expected to arrive later this year, serving as a replacement for the XUV400 that debuted in 2022.

According to Mahindra, the XUV 3XO will be produced at the Nashik factory in Maharashtra, India, where the outgoing XUV300 is currently being manufactured. Rivals in the Indian market include the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue.
