Available to watch in select theaters this fall before it's on VOD. The rapturous, sweaty live experience of Philly rock band Low Cut Connie-fronted by charismatic leader Adam Weiner-is celebrated in all its beer-soaked, piano slamming glory in this rousing documentary. The description says this is in "the tradition of art-world documentaries like Stop Making Sense and American Movie." This doc is a unique hybrid-genre concert film starring the rock n' roll performance artist Low Cut Connie, depicting a stunning 3-show run in New York City in 2022. "I can't stay here." "There's no reason to be afraid." Gravitas Ventures has unveiled an official trailer for a film called Hauntology, an indie horror project originally pitched as a "Queer Horror Road Trip Movie." It's an anthology feature with various horror segments - an older sister takes her fearless runaway sibling Venus on a road trip, to share the most chilling tales surrounding their hometown. Jazmin takes Venus on a journey around Ohio, where Jazmin tells supernatural tales featuring characters have more in common with Venus than they first realize. Hauntology features four ghostly vignettes and another wrap-around story - a series of ghost stories taking them to four very haunted places. The movie stars Jaidyn Triplett as Venus Price, Samantha Russell as Jazmin, and Naomi Grossman as Annalisa, with Zoey Luna, Samantha Robinson, Nancy Loomis, Kurt Oberhaus, among others. Signature Ent. in the UK has unveiled their own official trailer for the adventure comedy from New Zealand titled Bookworm. This is releasing now in NZ & Australia this month, with a UK release set for direct-to-VOD this November. It will likely also hit VOD in the US this fall but nothing has been confirmed yet. Eleven year old Mildred's world is turned upside-down when her estranged father, the washed-up magician Strawn Wise, comes to look after her and agrees to take her camping to find a mythological beast known as the Canterbury Panther. Elijah Wood stars as her eccentric absent dad who returns home to her in New Zealand, with Nell Fisher as Mildred, and a small indie cast including Morgana O’Reilly, Michael Smiley, & Vanessa Stacey. Pixar has debuted an official trailer for a mini-series featuring LEGO versions of a few of their best movies. LEGO Pixar: Bricktoons is a brand-new series of shorts with fan-favorite Pixar characters. BrickToons catches up with Marlin and Dory from Finding Nemo (2003), Jack-Jack and his super siblings Dash and Violet from The Incredibles (2004), Lightning McQueen and Mater from the original Cars (2006), Merida and her rambunctious baby brothers from Brave (2012), and both Miguel & Hector from Lee Unkrich & Adrian Molina's Coco (2017) in an entertaining series of LEGO-styled animated adventures for which no assembly is required. "You ask for surrender? Here is my answer!" Netflix has unveiled a badass teaser trailer for the animated series Twilight of the Gods, the next Zack Snyder project out this year. He has been developing this in tandem with the Rebel Moon movies - first look was this summer. It's inspired by Norse Mythology. The Twilight of the Gods refers events that led to the destruction of Midgard and Asgard, then the death of most of the Æsir and Vanir gods in an ultimate battle against evil, the forces of nature and the Giants. Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie horror creation called Curse of the Sin Eater, marking the feature directorial debut of Texas filmmaker Justin Denton. This initially premiered at Panic Fest 2024 earlier this year, and it'll be out on VOD to watch in September. Rick – a desperate, poor construction worker – makes a deal with a dying business mogul to inherit his billions. Rick soon discovers that the deal, involving eating the man's corpse, also means that he has been cursed to inherit the man's terrifying sins - the many crimes the billionaire committed in order to build his fortune. Grasshopper Film has revealed the trailer for an indie documentary hybrid film called Holding Back the Tide, about oysters. Arriving in select theaters (starting at DCTV's Firehouse Cinema in NYC) in September with more cities throughout the fall. This first premiered at the 2023 DOC NYC Film Festival, and also played at the 2024 Thessaloniki Doc Festival. Holding Back the Tide is a docu-poetic meditation on New York's oysters and their transformations in the face of an uncertain future. Believe it or not, NYC used to be the world's oyster capital. "Now their specter haunts the city through queer characters embodying ancient myth, discovering the overlooked history and biology of the bivalve that built the city. Lionsgate + American Zoetrope have unveiled the full trailer for Megalopolis, the controversial and critically panned new Coppola movie opening in theaters this fall. Megalopolis is director Francis Ford Coppola's latest ambitious project, a $100M+ feature that he has been trying to make ever since he first conceived the film in 1979. The basic setup is: an architect wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia following a devastating disaster. It's not actually NYC, but a giant city like NYC hence the Megalopolis title. The architect's plan is opposed by the mayor, who has other ideas for the city. This premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to mostly mixed and negative reviews (here is mine).
